What’s in a Name? – Part Deux

So with the decision being made to change the title of the blog, we need to get all the suggestions out in the open in an arena where we can debate the merits of each possible choice. As a side note this topic can get us thinking about what we actually 
do in the museum. Are we explainers, provocateurs, educators, or some made up word that is a combination of those things? Those outside the explainer program, please feel free to suggest titles as well. We’ll probably vote in the next week or so, so get thinking about possibilities.

Ryan and Exploratorium superstars,
I’m surprised by the name change. From the previous post, I understand a bit about why you don’t want to remain as the Exploratorium Explainers Blog, but most of those reasons were about negatives–things you DON’T want people to think. What DO you want people to think?
I’m concerned that if you go to a fun but unclear title, you’ll lose the branding positive (both for you and the museum) of being directly connected to the Exploratorium. You have a lot of readers (like me) who think of you as a friendly link to the Exploratorium, not the other way around. I don’t go to the main site to find your blog; I occasionally hit them up based on what you write.
All of this to say that I think riffing off of/including exploratorium in your name is useful. For this reason, I like Exploratorium Underground–or E. Behind the Scenes or E. Deep Dark Secrets or E.’s Hidden Underbelly or E Elves or E Lackeys or E Horn-Tooters. I’ll think on it more… good luck!
Good call Nina! I think the points that you bring up speak to why I would have rather kept the name and removed it from the official explo site. I guess were learning that it’s tough to keep a balance between cultivating the connection to the museum while retaining our independence in a fourm like the blog. I think the reaction for many of us was that if we were being told to change the name, we would go off in a different direction in terms of the title.
But I think your point makes sense not only in terms of “branding” but also in terms of what this blog is about. And if anything, it’s about The Exploratorium and our experiences there.

Hey y’alls! Anne had some good ideas about the new name that she told me but never posted so I will steal her glory. Hahaha!
Maybe we should just steal our own subtitle and call the blog
‘Life (at? in? of?) the Exploratorium’
We should be trying to get at what we really talk about here and that pretty much sums in up.
On the same token, could we just modify the word explainers and keep in in there, i.e.
“Exploratorium Explained”
“Exploratorium Explains it all”
neither of those sound right but maybe some one can come up with something good along those lines. That was we can keep the “explain” as a descriptive but not as a proper noun.
