Honeybees (from Anne)

Anne (a.k.a. The Boss of the explainers) asks to share this story about honeybees, and their mysterious disappearance from crop fields everywhere.

We have explored the issue of pollination in training, as we do a flower dissection demo as part of our duties, and therefore we talk about pollination and the role of bees in it. (And birds, yes, and other insects. This sometimes leads to fascinating discussions with children.) However, bees carry the brunt of the pollination for edible crops. And they’ve been disappearing. Seriously. Nobody knows why. It’s worth reading the article, as it calls this “the biggest general threat to our food supply”, so it’s definitely something to be aware of.
